Tang Dynasty Diary
Book Design

Ideas Factory were approached to produce a presentation diary, celebrating a private collection of precious cups from the Tang Dynasty.

Being a new decade, the client required something extra special - presenting their annual calendar in a way that was both functional and a highly collectible item in its own right. The solution was a diary that doubles up as a beautiful art book. Each month celebrates an individual cup, with a pair of high gloss images detailing these beautiful 7th/8th century objects.

The case-bound book was hand finished with the glossy pages tipped in to the book block, and decorated with ribbon page markers. It was delivered in a magnificent presentation box containing a decorative pencil.

The lunar cycle is highly prominent in the Islamic world, so with the diary being day to view, we used the top corner of each page to display an icon of the waxing and waning moon. This then acted like a flick book, with the moon animating as the pages are turned.
